Patty Howard

Born March 3, 1953 in London, Ontario

Patty has been a PGA of Canada member since 1975. While completing her degree in Kinesiology at Western University, she began her golf career at Thames Valley Golf Club under Fred Kern. Later, she learned from and worked for Gord McInnis Sr. at Lookout Point Country Club. With his encouragement, she successfully competed on the Women’s Professional Golf Tour and what was formerly known as the Futures Tour, both in the United States.

Patty became one of the most sought-after teaching professionals in the London and surrounding area while operating the Patty Howard Golf School. She attended a number of PGA Teaching Summits in the United States, as well as several Rules of Golf seminars. She also served as the Head Professional at West Haven Golf Club and later at Forest City National Golf Club, both in London, Ontario. Patty spent the final twelve years of her career before retirement as the Director of Golf at Sunningdale Golf and Country Club, the 36-hole facility where she first learned to play and love the game.

Patty wrote many articles for SCOREGolf Magazine and was also featured in numerous instructional segments on SCOREGolf TV. For many years, she wrote weekly instructional articles for the London Free Press. Patty has been a guest speaker at numerous events, as well as at high school Career Days. Throughout her career, she volunteered countless hours of instruction in support of numerous charitable organizations.

Achievements and Contributions:

  • First female Head Golf Professional in Canada at a mixed membership club
  • First female member to sit on the Board of Directors for the PGA of Ontario
  • 1988 won the Ontario Ladies Professional Championship
  • 1988 & 1991 won the PGA of Ontario Ladies Summer Championships
  • Won two events on the Futures Tour and finished second three times
  • First female to win a Southwestern PGA of Ontario mini tour event 
  • 2001 recipient of the “YMCA Women of Excellence Award” for Sport, Fitness and Recreation
  • 2007 Ontario Club Professional of the Year
  • 2007 Canadian Club Professional of the Year
  • 2008 ScoreGolf Club Professional of the Year
  • 2008 City of London Sportsperson of the Year
  • 2009 Inducted into the London Sports Hall of Fame
  • 2013 Heart Award recipient
  • 2016 Golf Ontario Hall of Fame
  • 2020 PGA of Ontario Hall of Fame
