Job Summary
The Merchandiser plays a central role in delivering an exceptional retail and Member experience at Bigwin Island. This position supports all aspects of buying, merchandising, visual presentation, inventory control, administration, and vendor relations. The Merchandiser ensures the Golf Shop delivers a premium, Member-focused retail experience and strong vendor and Member relationships.
Responsibilities

Buying, Receiving & Administration

  • Assist the Head Golf Professional with all buying functions, overseas receiving, inventory, and overall administration of the Golf Shop.
  • Follow the merchandise budget, explain variances, and reconcile merchandise reports on a monthly basis.
  • Manage invoice processing and vendor payments with accuracy and timeliness.

Merchandising & Visual Presentation

  • Create innovative merchandising displays aligned with product deliveries, seasons, and holidays.
  • Maintain an exceptional, first-class shopping environment with a consistent brand look and feel.
  • Organize trunk shows, special promotions, and sales events.
  • Stay current with new merchandise trends, fashions, and retail best practices.

Inventory Management & POS

  • Supervise all inventory control processes, including scheduled physical counts and routine spot checks.
  • Utilize Northstar POS for SKU creation, pricing, merchandise receiving, and adjustments.
  • Manage inventory levels, reorders, and COGS targets while using forecasting and sell-through analytics to optimize stock mix and financial performance.

Member Service & Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with Members, understanding their preferences, buying habits, and style interests.
  • Maintain and update a preferred customer database.
  • Gather Member insights and feedback on current and potential product lines.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of Club policies, programs, and events to support Member inquiries.
  • Represent Bigwin Island with integrity, professionalism, and a service-driven mindset at all times.

Vendor Relations & Special Orders

  • Maintain strong relationships with vendors to ensure timely communication and efficient ordering.
  • Oversee all special orders from placement through delivery, ensuring accuracy and prompt communication with members.
  • Place, track, and monitor all special orders in a timely and organized manner.
  • Coordinate all tournament merchandise and logoed product orders.

Marketing & Promotions

  • Lead marketing and communication efforts for merchandise promotions, new arrivals, and seasonal initiatives.
  • Develop creative campaigns and retail strategies that align with Club standards and member preferences.
  • Collaborate with the Head Professional to plan seasonal marketing calendars, email campaigns, and in-shop promotional initiatives. Cross-Department Support
  • Coordinate uniform purchases for all Club departments.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with all Golf Shop staff, supporting a collaborative team environment.
  • Assist the Golf Operations team by supporting the Golf Shop counter during peak periods or events.

  • Address member or vendor concerns with professionalism, courtesy, and timely resolution.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Golf Professional. Essential Expectations

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Golf Management, Business, Retail Management, Marketing, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with golf focused retail or in high end retail operation required.
  • Experience working within private clubs or high-end retail is an asset.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and point-of-sale systems. Experience with Northstar is an asset.
  • Excellent customer service skills and strives to produce the best possible product in an efficient manner.
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal and written.
  • Effective in high-pressure situations with strong problem-resolution skills.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills; able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Financial literacy with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent listening and interpersonal skills; able to navigate diverse perspectives and maintain positive working relationships.
Compensation
  • Salary of $65,000 - $70,000
  • Annual retail and performance bonus opportunity
