The PGA of Ontario Remembers Class "A" Life Professional - Douglas Bruton (1931-2021)

We are saddened to hear of the passing of PGA of Ontario, Class "A" Life Professional - Mr. Douglas Bruton.

On Sunday, October 24th, Douglas passed away peacefully with his friends and family in attendance just a few weeks short of his 90th birthday.

Loving husband of the late Ruth Bruton (2013). Sadly missed by his children Peter (Margaret) of Huntsville, Kathy Bruton and Dan Bruton, both of Lakefield. Dear grandfather of Rebecca Townshend (Derek) of Etobicoke, Joshua Bruton (Ashtyn) of Wingham, Zachery Bruton of Lakefield and great-grandfather of Bennett, Emery, Adley and Fynley. Survived by his brother-in-law John Nelson, sister-in-law Marilyn Bruton and his dear companion Margo Wania. Predeceased by his daughter Kimberley, sister Shirley Nelson and brother Glenn Bruton.

Doug was a proud member of the Professional Golfers' Association of Canada (PGA of Canada & Ontario) for over 60 years.

Doug began his career in golf as a Sales rep for Campbell of Canada before becoming the Head Golf Professional at the Northwood Golf Club. Over the next few years, he developed a relationship with a couple of members which lead to him taking over as the Managing Partner of the Bolton Golf Club, Brookside Golf Club and Georgetown Golf Club.

He also owned and operated several companies, namely Global Golf Management, Columbia Golf Cart Rental Company, Oakville Driving Range & Executive Course and The Practice Tee Driving Range on Hwy 10 in Mississauga. He served on the PGA of Ontario Board of Directors, the Board of Directors of Dynamic Golf and the Professional Golf Buyers Group of Ontario. As well he owned and/or partnered in ownership of two Dynamic Store franchises.
                                                                               
Doug earned the membership category of a PGA of Canada Life Member. He is the winner of many local Pro-AM’s, PGA of Ontario Championships and 7 times 2nd place PGA of Canada Seniors to Moe Norman, and numerous times a member of the Ontario vs Quebec Team.
 
He was an avid Scuba Water Diver/instructor & boater travelling around the world on many occasions to visit underwater sites.
 
A Celebration of Doug's Life will be held at his home, 2236 Cedarwood Lane, Lakefield, on Saturday, November 6, 2021, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
