About

Al has been involved in the golf industry from a very young age. He started shagging balls for group lessons at the age of 13 for PGA Professional Richard Bull in Brandon MB., and by the age of 15 was working Summers full time in the Pro shop. Showing an interest in club repair and assembly, he also spent many hours building custom made clubs for Taurus Golf.

Al joined the PGA of Canada in 1982, and served his apprenticeship at Elmhurst Golf and Country Club under PGA Professional Laurie Pierce.

In 1989 Al became the Head Golf Professional at Selkirk Golf and Country Club. While in Selkirk he started the "Little Swingers" junior program, with over 500 children between the ages of 4 -9 participating over a 6 year period. During the years the program was under Al's direction not only did the children get introduced to the game but they also raised funds for the Children's Hospital Research foundation.

While in Selkirk Al was heavily in the MB Zone serving on the Board of Directors and was president in 1995-96. During this time he also participated in a large number of tournaments, winning a few and was the Player of the year in 1995.

In 1997 Al joined Lakeland Golf Management and became the Executive Professional at Grand Pines Golf Course.

Over the past 25 years Al has worked under Harry Brotchie, Past President of the PGA of Canada and President of Lakeland Golf Management and has held positions at Grand Pines, Links at the Lake, and Falcon Lake Golf courses in Manitoba.
Focusing more on administration over the past 2 decades Al's role with Lakeland has expanded and he is currently the Director of Golf Course Operations overseeing all 10 of the golf courses operated by the company in Manitoba(5), Saskatchewan(4) and Alberta(1).

While working for Lakeland Al followed in the footsteps of his employer Harry and spent over 16 years on the PGA of Canada National Board of Directors, serving on many committees, becoming an Officer and then serving as President in 2004-05. He continues to serve on a couple of committees.
