Harry Allard

PGA of Ontario Hall of Fame Class of 2025

Born: July 15, 1937

Born in South Porcupine, Ontario, Harry Allard began his career in golf as a caddie at the age of nine at Toronto Golf Club. By sixteen, he was working on the greens crew, and the following year he moved to Rosedale Golf Club, where he worked in the Pro Shop.

In 1956, he joined the PGA of Canada and, soon after, opened a winter golf school. During the summers, he served as the First Assistant Teaching Professional under Murray Tucker at Rosedale. In the winters of 1961 and 1962, Harry worked with Burt Turcot at the Eglington Golf School, while in the golf season he served as Head Golf Professional at Rolling Hills Golf and Curling Club in Whitchurch-Stouffville. By 1964, he had taken on the role of full-time Club Manager, overseeing curling operations, golf course maintenance, and serving as Head Golf Professional.

In 1966, Harry leased Rolling Hills Golf and Curling Club, a 45-hole facility, where he worked tirelessly to enhance the property. He implemented significant course improvements, installed an in-ground irrigation system, and hosted countless events in a renovated clubhouse. Balancing duties as superintendent, Head Golf Professional, and General Manager kept him busy year-round. In 1976, he purchased Rolling Hills, only to sell it in 1979 to build a high-end public golf course.

That same year, Harry purchased 200 acres of land on Warden Avenue north of Bloomington Road and designed and built Emerald Hills Golf Club... Click here to continue reading Harry Allard's biography.

Born: April 20, 1946

Ian Clarke began his golf journey in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where he caddied for Fred Daly, the 1947 Open Champion and Head Professional at Balmoral Golf Club. He enjoyed success as a junior golfer before immigrating to Canada in 1966. After some travelling, Ian began working for Murray Tucker at the Board of Trade Country Club in 1968, starting in the back shop and eventually moving up to the position of Assistant Professional in the front shop.

During his time at the Board of Trade, Ian served as President of the PGA of Ontario Assistants’ Committee and placed third in the 1972 PGA of Canada Assistants’ Championship. In 1973, he earned a bursary spot at the Pat Osler Bursary Tournament, which qualified him to play on the South African Sunshine Tour in 1974, where he competed successfully.

Ian married his wife Rhona in the fall of 1974, and together they have two daughters, Tara and Fiona. In 1975, he became the Head Professional at Dundee Golf Club, where he won the 1976 PGA of Ontario Championship along with numerous Pro-Am events.

In 1980, Ian accepted the position of Head Professional at Glendale Golf Club, where he served for 25 years until his retirement in 2005. During his tenure at Glendale, he represented Ontario in four Ontario–Quebec matches and won several notable events, including the Head Professional – Assistant Professional Championship, the Senior Professional – Junior Professional Championship, and the Senior Hunt Trophy twice.
