Award Procedure & Process

Committee:

The Awards Committee will be comprised of two (2) Board Members and the past two years' award winners. 

Members of the Awards Committee cannot be nominated and can only nominate a member outside their voting categories.

Awards Recognized:

The following awards are recognized:

  1. Club Professional of the Year
  2. Class "A" Assistant Professional of the Year
  3. Executive Professional of the Year
  4. Professional Development Award
  5. Teacher of the Year
  6. Retailer of the Year
  7. Junior Leader of the Year
  8. Coach of the Year
  9. Apprentice Professional of the Year
  10. Player of the Year

 

Awards Credentials:

  1. Apprentice Professional of the Year
  2. Class "A" Assistant Professional of the Year
  3. Club Professional of the Year
  4. Coach of the Year
  5. Executive Professional of the Year
  6. Junior Leader of the Year

The Nomination Process

Based on the following procedures:

  • Nominations for all awards will be accepted from June 6 to August 25.
  • Individual nominations for all awards are accepted from any PGA Professional (Class "A" or Apprentice Professional in Ontario). Self-nominations will also be accepted.
  • All nominations received are reviewed by PGA of Ontario staff to ensure they meet the eligibility criteria.
  • As part of the nomination, the nominator will provide a recommendation to the PGA of Ontario office to complete their nomination.  If the nominee is eligible, they will then be sent the award package to complete.  They will be advised of who they were nominated by should they wish to reach out for assistance.
  • For members who chose to self-nominate, a recommendation letter from an outside source would be required.
  • If the nominee is not eligible, they will be advised of what is required to be eligible for the award.
  • Nominees will be asked to complete the application package and submit a resume and cover letter. 
  • Completed application packages are due by September 8, or the nominee will not be eligible for the award.

 

Final Selection

The Awards Committee will evaluate the nominations in their voting category and choose a winner for each of the awards they evaluated from 1 to 9 above based on the following procedure:

  • Applications will be forwarded to the individual Awards Committee members for evaluation in selecting their choices by October 2nd.
  • The criteria associated with each award will be considered in selecting the winners.
  • The Awards Committee will convene on or before October 5 to review nominees.
    • After a general discussion, all individual members of the Awards Committee will independently rank each nominee.
      • i.e. if there are 5 nominees for Professional of the Year, the committee member would rank their first choice 1 and their last choice as 5.
    • Three finalists will be determined for each category.
    • Then a winner for each category will be determined.
  • The three finalists and the winner from each category will be communicated to the Zone Office by the Board Member.

 

Communication

  • Three finalists will be announced on social media by the Zone Office.
  • The winner remains confidential to be announced at the Year-End Celebration on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Glen Abbey Golf Club.
  • PGA of Ontario winners are automatically put forward for the National Award through the PGA of Canada Award Program.
